Preview the Forces of the Empire in Return to Hoth

“The Rebels are alerted to our presence. Admiral Ozzel came out of lightspeed to close to the system.”
–Darth Vader, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

In the aftermath of the first Death Star’s destruction, the Empire has made ceaseless efforts to discover the location of the hidden Rebel base. At last, a remote probe droid has located the Rebellion’s presence on Hoth, and the full might of the Galactic Empire is now brought to bear against this secret base. As the Rebels scramble to escape from Echo Base, you can command a host of new Imperial and Mercenary units with Return to Hoth, an upcoming expansion for Imperial Assault!

Return to Hoth opens a new galaxy of adventure for Imperial Assault with sixteen new figures, thirty-seven double-sided terrain tiles, an entirely new campaign, and rules for expansive multiplayer skirmishes. Today, we take the side of the Galactic Empire to crush the Rebels beneath an iron fist.

Preview the Combat Tokens and Battles of Runebound

Terrinoth is a realm filled with wonder. Lost ruins hold hidden treasure. Strange creatures dwell in the deepest forests and beneath the waters of lakes and rivers. The Free Cities are repositories of learning, magic, and craftsmanship. Yet danger lurks in the wilds between the civilized cities. Dark forces stir once more, waylaying travelers and attacking remote settlements. Rumors even suggest that a deadly threat from the past has arisen in a bid to cover the land in darkness.

The realm of Terrinoth is yours to experience in Runebound, a board game of high fantasy and adventure for two to four players. In FFG's first preview, we looked at the adventures that await you and the actions you’ll use to move across the realm. Next, we explored the heroes you can play and the countless ways you can customize your heroes with dozens of skills and assets.

The life of an adventurer is not merely travel and exploration, however. Sooner or later, you will draw your blade or open your spell book to do battle with your enemies. Today, we’ll look at the innovative mechanics used for combat in Runebound and examine an example of combat in action!

Zombicide: Black Plague takes the zombie apocalypse into a fantastical medieval setting!

The arcane powers of the Necromancers have unleashed a zombie invasion in the age of swords and sorcery, and it's up to your group of straggling survivors to not only stay alive during these dark times, but to take back the realm and punish those responsible for the apocalypse!

Zombicide: Black Plague allows you take control of paladins, dwarves, knights, and magicians, wielding powerful swords, crossbows, and even magic spells to defeat the zombie hordes and its Necromancer overlords.

Equip your survivor with equipment like chainmail armor or shields to defend against the undead, pick up spell books to perform fantastic enchantments, or light up a pool of dragon bile to create an all-consuming inferno of dragon fire!

Take on the zombie invasion from the medieval streets to secret vaults that create quick passages through the citadel (and often hold special artifacts).

Chase down the elusive Necromancers to keep them from multiplying the zombie masses. And tackle a whole new set of missions through which your group of survivors will become the heroes of the land (or the last victims of the zombie massacre).

Ghal MarazThe Old World is no more. Warhammer is no more.

Going forward, Age of Sigmar will replace Warhammer.

We are now accepting pre-orders for the Age of Sigmar starter set in our store.

Here are some key notes about the game straight from Games Workshop themselves:

  • The 4-page rule book will be available for download for free from the Games Workshop website starting this Saturday, July 4th.

  • The starter set will be $125.00 and will be available starting on Saturday July 11th. The starter set will include 18 Stormcast Eternal figures (new faction), 29 new Khorne figures, a 29-page Age of Sigmar book (background/story material and scenarios), a printed version of the rulebook, and the War Scrolls.

  • War Scrolls, which will be available for free download from the Games Workshop website, will include the stat lines, special rules, and key words for each unit.

  • Key Words will able to be used and combined to allow different tactical advantages. For instance, a figure might have a special rule that gives a bonus to all figures within 8 inches that have the Daemon Key Word.

  • There will no longer be point values for any figures. It will be up to the players to determine what figures they want to bring to the fight and the game can scale from 1 figure per side to infinite figures per side.
  • Army composition rules are no more. Players will no longer have to worry about having a specific number of core units, or a limited number of rare units.

  • Armies can also comibne now in any way. Players can have Lizardmen teamed up with Skaven fighting against Chaos Beastmen and Tomb Kings.

  • Bases size/shape no longer matter. Unit coherency and movement is now fluid like Warhammer 40,000. Warhammer figures will now be supplied with round and oval bases, but it does not matter what the figures are mounted on since measurements are measured from figure to figure.

So, how will this new game play? We will find out this weekend when the new rules come out.

History records many great pairings. Death and Taxes. Peanut Butter and Jelly. Cats and Cheezburgers. Now we've mashed up Munchkin with Smash Up!

Unleashing eight new factions based on Munchkin races and classes (Orcs, Warriors, Halflings, Clerics, Dwarves, Elves, Thieves, and Mages) into the mayhem of Smash Up, this stand-alone expansion can be played by itself, or combined with existing Smash Up sets for calamitous clashes!

Plus, two brand-new card types are introduced: 'Monsters' lurk around the bases, while 'Treasures' give you new rewards when you smash a base.

Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes, the dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!"

Eilish Garrity

PIP 38018 - Warmachine: Eilish Garrity
MSRP $16.99

Nowhere is the potential scope of infernal corruption more evident than with Eilish Garrity, the once affable arcanist of the Black River Irregular mercenaries. Eilish still sees in the mirror the man he once was. When speaking to outsiders, his charm can return, allowing him to present a smiling face to those who, moments later, are overwhelmed by his magic and offered to his infernal masters. He is addicted to power, with a thirst for hidden knowledge that has taken him down a path to disgrace and degradation. He greedily accepted the forbidden lore that was offered him and, in doing so, damned himself beyond redemption.

The Dark Seeker is a potent arcane spellslinger who offers a lot of flexibility to your Infernal forces. Hex Blast is a potent damaging spell that can also strip buffs off enemy models (or debuffs from your own, if you’re willing to risk their lives in the attempt!). Puppet Master can help ensure those critical attacks land or impair your opponent’s dice roll. And when Eilish has outlived his usefulness, his Arcane Pulse will strip your opponent of their nearby upkeeps when Eilish dies.

Lord Roget d’Vyros (metal)

PIP 38019 - Warmachine: Lord Roget d’Vyros (metal)
MSRP $16.99

An arcanist who becomes an infernalist can seize a leadership position among the cults, attracting others into their pacts. Lord Roget d’Vyros is an example of one who has risen to such a position. A former member of the Order of the Golden Crucible, Roget is glad to have put that group behind him and now openly serves his new masters. His arcane skill was once mediocre, but he has achieved harmonic exaltation with the infernals, able to augment their strength and to borrow their greater magic to employ as his own.

Roget d’Vyros is an attachment for your Infernal Master, one that augments the Master’s already considerable arcane might with additional helpful abilities like Harmonious Exaltation to reduce the cost of your Infernal Master’s next spell. Roget’s unique feature is Willing Vessel, which allows him to be sacrificed to summon an Infernal Horror with no additional Essence Cost, making him an essential tool to help manage your resources.

Howlers (metal)

PIP 38020 - Warmachine: Howlers (metal)
MSRP $79.99

Howlers are heavy and brutish creatures from the Outer Abyss, each having become corporeal in an extremely durable form, boasting thick hides that readily turn aside blades and bullets. These beings ooze shadow and warp reality around them as they charge with ruthless abandon into the fray, entering a berserk frenzy. Though considered infernals, howlers are not as intelligent as the greater masters that enslave them, and they have no fear of destruction.

When Infernals want to smash their opponents in melee combat, they deploy Howlers to cut through their mortal foes. Howlers are big, stocky combatants with a large number of boxes and huge, powerful blades. Berserk and their naturally high MAT mean once they start swinging, they won’t stop until everything around them is dead. Vengeance and Bloodthirst provide movement tricks to punish your opponent for damaging them and ensure they will reliably cross the field and smash their victims.

Griever Swarm (metal)

PIP 38014 - Warmachine: Griever Swarm (metal)
MSRP $44.99

Griever swarms drift swiftly through the air and travel in small packs, disgorging void fire at their chosen prey. Though considered infernals, as they are native to the same realm, they are closer to animals or beasts. Their behavior suggests a strangely uncanny understanding of their environment and their prey as they silently coordinate to attack. They are surprisingly durable, and their mode of movement is erratic, making them hard for mortals to anticipate. Inky darkness follows them, pulled from beyond Caen, and the sight of their approach presages certain doom.

Griever Swarms act as the core ranged unit for Infernal armies. They have a wide selection of useful abilities to help them fulfill this role, such as Flight, giving them useful mobility over all types of terrain. Additionally, they have Eyeless Sight, which allows them to ignore much of the standard defensive tech available to most models, and Combined Ranged Attack, so they can group together to deliver especially powerful shots.

Regna Gravnoy

PIP 38021 - Warmachine: Regna Gravnoy
MSRP $15.99

That the infernals have their hooks deep in mortal affairs is demonstrated by their subversion of one of the Khadoran Empire’s highest-ranking nobles. Great Princess Regna Gravnoy has earned respect as the ruler of Gorzytska Volozk through her proven intelligence, political acumen, and undeniable ruthlessness. She has also been, for most of her life, a secret infernalist. She has perfected the rituals by which lesser horrors can be summoned and bound, and she enjoys the thrill of wielding hellfire to incinerate her foes. Calling herself the White Queen, she anticipates ruling whatever remains of the frozen north.

The closest thing to a mortal Infernal Master, Regna Gravnoy can summon Light and Lesser Infernal Horrors and command one in her own personal battlegroup. This provides even more summoning flexibility for an Infernal army. In addition to this, she brings a selection of useful spells, like Deceleration, to help shield her allies against enemy ranged attacks, or Hellfire, for when she needs to devastate a powerful foe with a potent spell blast. She is particularly fond of the Shrieker, and it is a staple Horror for her to control.
